The second optional one seemed pretty obvious, enter slow exit fast as you head towards the lane changes.
I certainly agree it was pretty obvious, but came to the opposite conclusion. Probably a difference with car dynamics, as I'm sure the Minis (for example) were correct to take it your way.
Entering fast let me stay on the gas for a long time before having to brake for the slalom, extending the momentum built up in the previous section where the Mazda 3 could put the extra (for HS) power down.
In contrast, to shove the heavy (for HS) car over to make that slow entry would have resulted much earlier braking and a speed reduction to below slalom speed. It would have cost time through the slalom rather than merely at the exit.
Immediately following the slalom was a set of sharp changes that prevented me carrying much speed through them, so gains from the fast slalom exit would have been wasted. Once through that second slalom putting down power was almost impossible for the rest of the course, with tons of wheelspin and resulting terminal understeer.
That slalom marked the split between the "I has HP!" Mazda 3-favoring section and the "I has no power but I can put what I have down in agile turns!" Mini-favoring section. For me, carrying already accumulated speed into the slalom seemed like a faster option overall than accelerating very briefly into a section where I'd be just throwing away the gains right away.
