Inside the car, suction cup to the right of the camera. I had to futz with it some to articulate it correctly, but got it to be positioned somewhat angled downward to avoid direct sun/glare yet still (a) not hit the windshield and (b) not get the mount in the picture.

This might sound silly, but could you take a picture of your camera :).

no problem. I'll post my video clip from that position to see if it suits you as well.

I don't doubt the position is good, I'm talking about a still picture of the camera and the mount and all it's contortions and where you attach the suction cup. Maybe you have the linkages different from me.

You say it is mounted high on the windshield? To the right or left of the rear view mirror?

I have mine set on "3", IIRC it's 720p 60 fps mode and it runs like buttah on my Win7 core i7 machine. I'm using Roxio 2010 for editing, and with that you can export it in any one of a variety of formats--like many of the other alternatives perviously mentioned.

I don't get the rage about MICRO$$$HAFT!!!! but whatever.

Windows Live Movie Maker will import any h.264 videos, and it will export to Quicktime containers and h.264 for HD videos if you have Windows 7.

Seriously, it's a free product that works.

If you've met Steve, you'd know there isn't much rage in him.....but smart ass comments are bountiful :).

Not sure how my comment was taken as "rage"...sorry about that. James, thanks for the support!

@James, I mounted it high on the passenger side of the windshield.

I found it a bit strange that WMP would play mp4 but I couldn't import *.mp4 into Moviemaker (DVD Maker in Win7Pro). Andrew, could you help an old guy out?

edit: oh, I see. Windows Live MovieMaker was misunderstood by me as the Windows Moviemaker that coes with the OS. Apparently they are different. I'll download the Windows Live software and see if that helps. Ah...I can feel the rage subsiding

Steve, I messed around for a bit placing the mount/camera high on the windshield but couldn't get anything such that the camera is aiming down slightly unless it is touching the windshield. Did you have to use the other piece of linkages?

If you could post a picture of the mount/camera with it on your windshield, I'd appreciate it.

EDIT: I think I got. I have the suction cup quite high on the windshield and almost all the way over to the passenger A-pillar. The suction cup relative to the camera is slightly further forward (not directly to the right....slightly closer to the front of the car than the camera). In this position, I can almost rotate the camera part all the way forward and aim downward at the passenger floor mat without hitting the windshield too much.

Is this how you have it Steve?

check this album on my picasa page

I have all the linkage tightened down, so this is how it mounts to the windshield. If you move the main arm down, you can get more downward tilt to the camera.

Hope it helps!

I see on the second large knob that you flipped it. I tried doing that but the disk with the 'texture' that bites as you tighten it will only go on one side. Did your mount come like that?

Also, I see you have one less 'linkage' attached than I do.

I use my cameras on track not autocross so you might discount all this, but:

I bought a Go pro (first gen I think) but I don't use it much as I have decided it is much easier to use a cheap JVC camera from Best buy or my Canon Sureshot I bought used from Matthew Fortner right here on the forum of $100 bucks. I got a mount from somewhere Vincent noted on here and just attach it to the roll bar with the help of a muffler camp.

I did not have much luck with the go pro, either I thought it was on and it wasn't, it ran out of power quickly, or when it was working well it would fall off (thats a fun video though!)

If you don't have a roll bar, Matthew got some amazing video by coming up with a grill mount. Patrice also made a great little mount he put on his dash and used some little digital that worked great.

I might use the go pro this summer on some motorcycle trips (that is if I can find the helmet mounts!)

Yeah, on the passenger side window inside the car is probably one of the best points. Here's one I took from yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2POpUznGFt0

Was this the circuitcross? How many runs did you get? What was the cost? Was it worth it? It's difficult to tell, but how was timing done? Was it with timing equipment or transponders? Weather looks pretty iffy. When did it start raining?
