Rodney, did you sit in the Genesis coupe Hyundai had on display?

I did not, missed that one....

Nice car. I can't speak to the headroom issue, but definitely roomier than an S2000. The one they had on display was an R-Spec, with the 2.0L turbo, which is the car I think you'd want. It's plenty nice inside - power windows and locks and all that, but no sunroof. The cloth seats were particularly comfy and well bolstered.

The downside is wheel size - they come with 19" wheels. You'd go broke keeping that thing in Hoosiers. However, in STX trim, you could both modify the car to your liking, and run street tires. I think one of those cars would be a riot in STX trim. Noted Mitsubishi Evo tuner AMS has Genesis stuff available now. The 2.0 Genesis engine is apparently a close relative to the one in the current Evo. So, certainly a neat platform to build from.

Sticker on that car was $24K. If it were my money, I'd probably get a Mazdaspeed3 in this price range, but I'd certainly give the Hyundai a close look. Hyundai has my attention lately for some reason.

The genesis weighs 3400lbs. That's a lot of pork for a little 2.0L engine to move around. Turbo or not.

Sure. That's why it's in GS. I imagine some STX type stuff might wake it up nicely.

Where do you get 3400? The 2.0L Turbo's curb weight is 3294, but those that have them in autocross trim are just under 3200#.

Maybe the V6 version is where you got that number. - AB

Yeah, those numbers are way off.

Here is a link to someone who actually has one and has weighed it. For those reading, the R spec is only about 25# lighter than the track version from 2009:

Forget stock class, do some mods.

Ok Jason, what do you recommend? I'm staying stock one more year because I think I have the tires for it. Next year is STX. I have a 2k budget for mods. I should have enough set aside by the end of the year to cover tires as well, so those are not part of the 2k budget. What's the best bang for the buck?

so, I went to this sorry excuse of an "international car expo" at the fair grounds this weekend. I think this is the last time I'll go to this. Nothing more than the NC car dealers putting all cars in one place to sell. No glitz, no glamor, nothing to capture the eye. As far as I can tell, there was no Saab, BMW, VW, Mercedes or Porsche. Looks like all the euro marks stayed clear. No displays, concepts, models on rotating platforms.... nothing. Can't even get a beer, but I digress....

I sat in the camaro again and I don't fit, especially one w/ a sun roof. I can just fit into a non sunroof model, but no way I can wear a helmet. As a matter of fact, most GM cars I sat in my head hit the roof. Looks like GM is out for me. I did sit in some of the mazdas and I fit in all of those save for the rx8. The 3 offered plenty of head room. I also sat in the MX5, I have no idea how Mike Miller fits in that car. I felt shoehorned in. I think the MX5 is out for me as well.

I also looked at the new mustang again. Just can't get past those rear lights. Interior is OK, but not as retro as the '05-'09.

I did look at the new subu WRX. I did fit and that's an option down the road. Not sure if I like the new profile of the car, the jury is still out for me from a design standpoint.

Based on everything I saw, I'm thinking the current '07 mustang may stay in my stable for a while longer.

The answer to your question is, "Like a hair in a buscuit". I am held in place very securly in an autox. The 2006 MX5 had non height adjustable seats. Maybe the height adjustment in the newer MX5's push the seats up a little bit. Also, I removed the dead pedal which gives me about 3 more inches of leg room. The dead pedal was almost to the clutch pedal.

As side from the Hardee's biscuit commercial, I think you're Busted!!!! Can you do that in stock class? Might have to give that trophy back! I promise I won't tell no one Mike.... 8)

That's a good read. That car might turn out to be interesting in GS. It's got a few things going against it, like the lack of crash bolts, but that's a fairly common theme in GS.

By far the best bang for the buck is a supercharger, but something tells me you can't do that in STX. :P

I'm guessing that the following parts are legal in STX and I would start there.

Springs (maybe 2.5" coilover kit)
Shocks
Intake/Tune
Replace mufflers with straight pipes (less weight + more noise)
Whatever weight reduction you can do in that class.

Being that I'm an Eaton employee and that logo just happens to be on the E-force kit I've been tempted many times to contact edelbrock to see if I can get a discount. Want me to ask about a multiple order discount too?

wasn’t the geneses r-spec taken out of stock class due to the manufacturer advertising a small part of that car as "not for street use"? maybe the scca changed their minds on it, but i thought I had read that they ruled that way. if no one finds what I am talking about, I will dig for it when I get some free time tomorrow.

The car is stock class legal for GS, you just can't use the crash bolts that come with it because of the "Not for Street Use" disclaimer. - AB
