For 2010 C Stock has gone from a Miata class to a very diverse class of cars. I am very much hoping that this will add to the competition and the numbers of participants in the class. I’m also nervous that the Miatas that might have run this class may switch to STR. If we know who will be running in C Stock, then maybe we can encourage more to join. Most of the C Stock cars are listed below:

BMW M Coupe/Roadster (‘96-‘00),M3 (E30 chassis, E36 chassis),Z3 (6-cyl) NOC,Ferrari 308, 328,Mazda RX-7 Turbo (‘87-‘91),RX-8,MercedesSLK,MINI Cooper S JCW (‘06-‘10),Clubman S JCW (‘09-‘10),Nissan 300ZX Turbo (‘90-‘96) 350Z,370Z (all),Pontiac Solstice (non-GXP),Porsche 911 (non-turbo) NOC,911 Club Sport 914-6,928,Carrera 2, Carrera 4 (964 chassis) 356 Carrera (4-cam),Toyota MR2 Turbo,spyder, super charged, 99+ Miata all, Corvette 63-82, Saturn Sky (2006-09 non redline)

I’ll be the first declare that I will be running C Stock in a 2006 Miata.

To update Mike, Mary WILL be running CS this year, at least thats the current plan so you should have some competition.

Glad to have Mary be part of C Stock. Last year Jennifer B. said that she planned to run C Stock this year. She has the potential to win a few. My son Eric will run a couple. He’s very fast without even trying. My other son Anders will be starting as a novice. Maybe next year he will be up for C Stock, unless he gets a girl friend. Maybe, Mary will let Brice try to whoop on us a couple of times. As a group, I believe that we will keep up the proud tradition of finishing close to the front of the pack.

My Hoosiers arrived yesterday; I am in! :D

And while I'm sure Becca would prefer to spend a year or two in tire getting a feel for things, she'll be co-driving the MR2 unless and until she finds a ride of her own.

This is "Mary" (please call me MJ or at least Brantley... Mary was my grandmother's name and now that I just turned the big 2-5 on Saturday you are making me feel old!).

I ordered my new wheels and tires from Jeb this afternoon. I might not make it to the Laurinburg's Test-n-Tune because we will be up late Saturday celebrating Duke's domination, but I will be there with bells on for the rest of the season!

Funny you mention that because I somehow got "Hoosier Tom's" number in search of some weird size V710's..

Anyway that guy is a riot!! I told him that I race in NC with Tarheel and voluntarily started naming off names of all the recent sales in NC and I thought I recognized your name when he mentioned it.

Did you speak to him but chance? He is definitely an extrovert with strong opinions to say the least but I'm sure he's forgotten more about race tires than I know. Sorry to sidetrack the thread. :toast:

Yeah, he is a funny guy, I can just imagine him at the track holding forth on topics A to Zed while he mounts your tires. Sure got my tires to me fast, though, and had them billed to my UPS account so I saved crazy money on the freight over Tire Rack.

Speaking of thread hijacking -- while the pink bug will not be making a track appearance this year, it IS for sale. Perfect Sweet 16 or HS graduation gift, and made of solid steel, so very safe! Becca is dreaming of a Miata or similar in her future...

I guess that we now know who’s in C Stock after AutoX 1 at Laurenburg this weekend. We had one of the larger classes there, six aggressive competitors. I don’t think that I have ever run when the class was this large. If it wasn’t for those guys in F Stock, we would have had the fastest stock class. It was a horsepower and pucker course anyway. We had five competitors all within 1.5 seconds, pretty darn close. I’m sure as we all get confidence on those nice new R compound tires, the times will get even closer. Anders got 4th in Novice, so we will have one more competitor join us pretty soon. Hopefully Beca can join us soon also. She and Anders both drive similarly. They have both managed to stall at the start line and then drive very fast. Eric will only be running with us on overcast days as he can’t work. Charlie, Mo Monroe, and I have been beating up on each other for a couple of years. We have all gotten much better because of the competition. Usually the difference between us was in thousands of second. When you lose by such a small amount, you tend to think very carefully about where the time went. I’m a very complacent driver, I need you guys push me. I don’t mind starting the season with a target on my back. When I do loose, one of you will become the new target. Thanks for a great day of racing.

I noticed that Karl Shultz ran in X class yesterday. I guess he was looking to be in larger class rather than run solo, but he also signed away an FTS plaque.

Besides Karl, there were 3 other people running X class that could have laid claim to the FTS plaque. :)

*cough* yeah ;)

Michael Miller said it was a horsepower course, but I would never characterize it as such. There were at best 3 places that I could get on it, and only the finish was foot to the floor. - AB

I concur, many people make the mistake of assuming a fast course is a horsepower course. This is simply not true. Sunday's course had a high average speed with very few braking zones and only one hard braking zone. It was mostly a momentum course which is actually beneficial for the cars with lower power. Courses with high speed differentials are "horsepower courses". Lots of hard braking zones followed by relatively long stretches of acceleration are where horsepower shines.

Regardless, the course was a hoot!

I agree with what the others have said. This course was not a horsepower course. In the S2000, which I'd describe as a medium-horsepower car, it was an interesting exercise in both "how long can I stay full throttle," and "how early can I get back on the gas out of so-and-so feature."

Funny that you mention this. Last year, I took FTS at an event - I think it was at Danville. Anyway, I started thinking about it, and the next fastest car in any "standard" stock class was a CS car. So on the basis of the speeds of the cars, I *should* have set FTS.

Personally, I find my standing in the overall PAX and raw listings a much better gauge of how I'm doing. So it made sense for me to migrate to X this year. Now, when I return a top-five PAX & raw finish, I don't even get a trophy.
