I'm going to disagree with what most of the others have posted.

Steve and I co-drove the mustang together and completed the whole season on one set of R-comps. We did all 8 THSCC events, which was more like 16 events. As bad as the mini may be on tires, I can't see it being any worse than the Mustang. We finally started to show cords at the end of event six, but we never flipped them mid season, and were running lower than recommended pressures for the first few events. Had we flipped them mid season, and run the right pressures from the start they would still be have tread over the whole tire. We did end up flipping them to complete the last two events.

That being said, we were running the BFG R1 that I purchased slightly used. So, they weren't even new to begin with. I will say that they did start to fall off in performance mid season (or that's my excuse).

In any case I think the V710 or R1 would last you all season if you flip them and don't mind the performance falling off later in the season. Steve and I never backed down though and drove the absolute crap out of the car every run though.

Don't forget FWD versus RWD.

I think we're gonna stay in STX for her this year until we can truly afford to go all out. Thanks all for your suggestions.

All that I can tell you is that after you have made your first run on R comps, there is no going back. From an old guy’s perspective, it’s like going from black and white to color tv. I was hoping that Mary would be running C stock this year. So far, Mary, Jennifer Bedell and I are the only ones who have talked about running C stock. With the all of new cars running the class this year, I was hoping that there would be a lot of competition. Maybe, before you make the decision final, we should pole to see who would be running C stock this year. If it turns out to be a strong class, then maybe it would be too much fun to turn down. I get grief from my family for buying tires that I only use for about 100 miles. My wife got 80K on hers and Eric has 92K on his tires. So, Who’s running C stock next year?

Sounds like you've made the decision. But, FWIW:

I've never run 17"s but I think a single driver just doing local event would be right on the bubble actually. As long as you flip the fronts. If was doing that I'd budget for 6—you'd want fresh meat for the NCAC.

I beat the crap out of 710s on my MINi and they took some abuse to cord. The issue is that they fall off the pace way before the metal shows.

I'm not sure what I'm driving.
Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

FWIW, I run pretty much a whole season on Hoosiers in the Mazda 3. That's running pretty much only the THSCC points events, no extras. I'm running 225/45-17 I believe. Completely stock components, mild AX alignment. I rotate them every event, usual street rotation pattern. I set the pressure cold at the beginning of the day to 40 front and 32 rear, and then forget about tuning and just drive the car.
