Hopefully, I'm not getting too far ahead of myself here, but I need some recommendations on shops that can handle custom exhaust work.

The exhaust will need to run from the exhaust manifolds to the back of the car, and I would prefer the use of mandrel bends.

Any of you home welders capable of taking on this task?

Capable? Maybe. Willing? Maybe not :)

I've made a few custom exhaust pieces and it's kind of a PITA to get everything perfect. Definitely a learned art.

I'd suggest you consider buying all the pieces you need from mail order and cut/grind everything to exact size and fitment in the garage. Hell you could tape all the pieces together for fitment.... Then when you take to a welder even someone with little experience could bang it out quick.

I have bought a bunch of mandrel j-bends from a place called something like The Muffler Man up in canada. They have a huge selection of stuff. Think you need a tax ID number to order there though, it's been a while.

The place your looking for is REMCO in Roxboro.336-599-9867. They do excellent work very reasonable, and quick. They've done my vette the miata and the mini. The catback on the mini ran from the front converter under the engine to the rear of the car, multiple bends $190 including muffler.
But I'm sort of confused...do you want a custom exhaust.....or one done by a "home welder"

I'm not sure that there's a difference? When I say custom, I mean I need an exhaust made since I can't just purchase an aftermarket bolt-in exhaust. I don't really care who makes it, as long as it's a good exhaust and flows well.

Thank you for the price point. That does sound like a great deal, was that with mandrel bends?

No mandrel bends for that price, but great flow. Jon does good work.

I am bringing this back from the dead to see where people would recommend in the Apex/Cary area or even Chapel Hill area. All I need is a pipe bent up and have it mounted to the muffler I already have and then some hangers welded to the pipe to have it hung on the car.

I had a place near me recommended but the guy wants it for 4 hours and won't let me in to watch him do it. I am kind of picky about who I let touch my car so that does not make me happy.

I would take Bernie's advice but I need to drive the S2000 to the place with no muffler and the less distance I need to drive the better since I don't have access to a trailer right now.

Jon (Remco that Bernie mentioned earlier) just did Our Chevy 2500 tow truck. You can stand rignt there and watch everything he does. If you could get the s2k there I think you'd be satisfied.

Keith - the orange Remington earplugs work great. Walmart should have them in stock, over by sporting goods. I keep a couple pairs in the tool tray of my car all the time, for when I forget my noise-cancelling earbuds...

Stay out of VTEC, you'll be fine :)

I drove my 5.2L Dodge to the muffler shop, right past one of Raleighs finest, without issue right after I put headers on it. At that point, the rest of the exhaust was more show than "muffling". No issues.

They are a long-time THSCC Sponsor. That's $PONSOR, like in: They pay money to support YOUR Track Team's Tee-Shirt program. And they do it with a smile!
Over the past few years, we've spent lots of time, gas and after-hours work cultivating relationships with our sponsors.
At least give them a call.

Keith,

Henry's Muffler shop in Raleigh (I'm familiar with the location on Millbrook) does excellent work and will let you hang out and watch without issue.
