We need to get the carpets cleaned, anyone have some suggetions on vendors, etc.

It looks like there are umpteen steam folks and "Chem-dry" who had the revolutionary carbonation formula

I'd like to deal with an outfit that has some local references (local to Durham is best).

I know it sounds like a commercial, but I've heard good things about Zerorez. A couple people I work with have used them and were happy. Not sure about pricing though.

http://www.myzerorez.com has a 10% coupon for internet orders. But no prices listed on the site.

We use Chem-Dry. We also found it necessary to buy our own carpet cleaner since twin almost-3 year olds wreak havoc on our floors.

Bump from the dead!!!

Anyone have any recent experiences with a reasonably priced carpet cleaning company? Don't need perfection...

Back when this was first posted, we chose to use Chemdry, and have used them ever since. Can't comment on how competitive the pricing is.

The last few times I've paid $20ish dollars and rented the cleaner from Lowes. It's a money loser if you believe time is money, but it's cheap. We haven't need anything since the 17 year old cat became a dead cat.

I wouldn't use a shampooer (professional or DIY) even if they paid me.

Chemdry or nothing.

We own a shampooer and it works pretty darn well. Not quite a good as professional model, but it's seen a lot of use and has served us well. I think it's a Bissell.

While I can't offer any recommendations on a particular company as my guy passed away several years ago, I can tell you that the manufacturers state carpet should be steam cleaned at least once every 18 months.

Steam cleaning helps restore the fibers and prolongs the life of the carpet. The problem with most steam cleaning outfits is that they don't have the proper water temperature at the end of the nozzle.

140F at the nozzle is the spec.

The problem with the shampooers is soap residue left behind. While they may do a great job of spot cleaning you should still have a qualified pro come in every couple of years. Soap residue will actually attract dirt.

Dry-Chem type cleaning can leave piles of powder in your carpet and unless you have a high dollar vacuum it will stay there. Again, steam cleaning by a qualified pro is recommended.

Carpet 101 is now dismissed.

Found Pro Green Carpet on Craigslist. After weeding out the other spammers, and seeing their level of communication on their facebook page, gave them a shot. Very pleased at the service, communication, price, and professional attitude. Will use them again

We've used Stanley Steamer on more than 1 occasion. They were on time and professional. No complaints.
