I asked a while back about shipping an engine...
Well, calling the locak shippers was a frightening experience, quotes were all in the $400-500 range, and that would be a deal breaker for me shipping the engine to California.
A guy at one of the local hubs for a national chain suggested I try out
http://www.freightquote.com
It also turns out that Freight Quote pays eBay to be linked that way.
Anyhow, they have large volume accounts with the shippers, and the price quote was nearly half of what calling the big shippers yielded.
In the end, I had quotes from about $250-300 (rather than $400+). I lost a little money on the deal because I originally put in the wrong freight class and had a lower quote...
But, everything went smoothly, and for $275 (that included $1500 insurance) the engine made it to CA in about 3 business days.
I did save money by shipping from the loading dock at work, and having it delivered to a business with a loading dock.
So, in all, it was a very positive experience.
