I'm planning to get a few insurance company quotes, considering firing Allstate for a few minor reasons.

Any recommendations? Who are you using and happy with?

Mike maybe you should give our own Cline Hall a call? He reps several companies.

He drives a Mini Cooper S with us. He's in Greenville with Ryan. Tell him who you are and he'll be glad to help you.

I've been with State Farm for auto and home "forever" (i.e. at least 30 years). Auto and home (Fran) claims have been handled just fine. I suspect the rates are higher than some others but, on the other hand, sometimes you get what you pay for . . . We do use a different company for the race car since State Farm doesn't offer that type of insurance. To help even the monthly cash flow we went to a monthly payment plan many years ago with State Farm. Our agent in Raleigh might be one of the larger offices since he actually has a staff but you probably would want an agent convenient to you. State Farm also offers personal liability umbrella coverage if you have auto and home coverage with them. Something to consider if you have assets that might be at risk if somebody (like an HPDE student) sues you after they wreck their car and get hurt or somebody drowns in your pond . . .

Thanks Vincent, I left him a message.

I just completed the insurance.com quote process and it spit out some pretty impressive numbers, including TRAVELLERS and LIBERTY MUTUAL. Anyone have experiences w/ them?

Liberty Mutual. Been with them since 1990. Have Auto and Home Owners. They have never failed to take care of us, and promptly. Including Fran with the house, and a couple of oops with the cars. Even when I had my kids on the policy they didn't rape us like some companies will do if they can find a minor on a policy.

They have made their name and money on Workers Comp insurance. So you don't see them as widely advertised for home/auto. They do a good job. I just added my Z06 to my policy. That was laughable. It's about $20 more than my C4. And that has a nice rate. Stay with them and don't insurance hop everytime someone offers to save you a few bucks. Over the long haul you'll be happy with them.

Graham

I'm pretty good friends with Alex Maiolo of Lee-Moore Insurance Company in Carrboro. He's an independent broker, but acts as your agent with whatever company you end up placed with, so you have one small office to handle any claims or issues, not some call center somewhere. They'll find you the best value for your money in most cases (I have had the occasional case where someone could do better themselves, but I think they'll regret it when they need help with something down the road). His number is 932-9990.

The real advantage with going with someone like this is getting everything through them (you don't have to do that at one time, but it's nice once you have it all that way as they know your entire risk exposure picture and can help get you price discounts from companies based on available packages out there and such).

 For Cline Hall. He's my new insurance agent.

FYI, I'm not bashful about the quotes/pricing I have found:

4 cars, full coverage, $1000 deductible comp+coll, clean record, no insurance claims in 10 years, home+auto

99 miata, 97 M3, 05 Durango, 03 Passat

Allstate = $2400 / year
Best on insurance.com/insweb = $1800 / year through Liberty Mutual
Cline Hall = $1800 / year through Erie

Plus I have an insurance agent who autocrosses. He also saved us a few hundred $$ on homeowner's ins.

So if you haven't re-quoted insurance in a while, give Cline a call and see what he can do for you. Like a lot of people I had some irrational "bond" to my last insurance company who frankly never gave a shit about me. If you listen to Clark Howard, follow his advice - get quotes every few years.

Mike, Sonya has her insurance with Erie as well.

I have had Erie for almost a year now, the price was right. Haven't had to file any claims as of yet, so no idea how they respond.

They respond very well. I have had auto, home and boat claims. I have been an Erie customer for 15 years!

Just curious, which office is your insurance out of?

I have been with Bradsher and Bunn of all these years. They are located in Raleigh.
