I guess this is as good a place as any to ask this type of question!

Can anyone recommend what to get for a car cover? Looking for one for the race cars since someone forgot to put one of the windows back on the car.

Priorities: (1) Cheap, (2) won't blow off or around too much; I guess I want a custom fit, (3) won't scratch the paint too much, (4) won't let too much water into the car, and (5) cheap.

Oh and above all it has to be cheap!

Suggestions? Thanks!

I had one made for the Celi by California Car Cover. They offer a number of different materials and will make it how ever you'd like, we ordered ours without space for a wing. It fits very well and the quality is excellent. Cheap is a different issue...

Mike,

For my race car I use a CHEAP waterproof cover also known as a "blue tarp" with strategically placed awning bungees and a couple of other simple straps to secure it over the car (it has withstood many heavy wind situations at events!!!). When the car is at home it has a garage to live in. The tarp is only used at events or at motels. None of the regular covers (if I could have found one or had one custom made) provide actual waterproof protection and they are not CHEAP. Plus the blue tarp can be stored WET.

Thanks for the options, guys. I think I am looking for something in between the custom $$$ cover and a blue tarp.

I guess I could just use Saran Wrap.

A glad "yard trash" bag with duct tape works well to keep out water.

Wallfart has a line of very inexpensive car covers, less than $30. I have four they are soft and semi water proof, in that they breathe and will channel most of the water away. They are also light and pack into their own small bag.

You said cheap!

Actually I will check that out. I'm just worried that since they aren't custom, they will flap around a lot, scratching the paint.

OK, so how about "inexpensive" custom car cover recommendations? I think I'm willing to pay up to $100.

Karl Shultz - if you're out there, what kind do you have for the integra?

Mike,

I've had good luck with the Covercraft outlet store...never know what they have, but I've gotten generic-sized Technalon III covers for the Triumphs for $40-$50 each. Call 1-800-382-3040 and they'll be happy to help you.

Mike:

I would recomend JC Whitney. They have lost cost fitted covers
under $100 suitiable for a race car. The one I have on the Scirocco
is from JCW and it keeps the rain out as I have no drivers side
window. Perhaps you can get a family name discount?

I think you just helped me decide on a name for the new kid.

Jonathan Chase Whitney

or

Jessica Candice Whitney.

Huh huh huh.

(PS - on the cover - got one from carbytes.com, $95 shipped. Fits great)

Evolution III custom-fitted cover for the Integra. It was a Christmas gift and I think it came from that California Car Covers place. I suspect it was rather expensive.

However, it completely kicks ass. The thing is about 8 years old and the only way its showing any age is from me being careless with it and gettins some oil on it. No tears, no fraying, no nothing. And it takes 30 seconds to take on and off.

Very water resistant. The GS-R doesn't have any door glass at all, and this thing keeps rainwater completely out of the car.

Might be overkill for you though, esp. since you've got passenger side glass and a plug for the driver side (I assume this is for the ITA car?)

Not to hijack this thread, but someone needs to start a new thread for this. :)

With different categorys such as best stereotypical NASCAR driver name, etc.

Is this for the Civic? Think this one might fit your year too -- or maybe these folks have some ideas? This looks a lot like the one I have for the Miata. Not what I'd call cheap, but you may end up getting what you pay for.
