Was asked by a fellow worker about getting his engine steam cleaned. He figured that since I'm a "car guy" I would possibly have an idea as to where he could get this done. Of course I don't, but told him I would ask around to see if anyone knew of a place that could and would do this.

Well, while not steam cleaning, I've had engines cleaned on cars that I was prepping for sale. I don't know what's more harmful to the exposed rubber wires and hoses...steam or cleaning agent. Anyhow, I use the guy that owns the www.detailguru.com website for detailing needs. Ken Stark. I like his work but have yet to have him clean an engine. I'm not sure what he uses for that. Regardless, he does a lot of cars on site at work, he's done my Subaloo (after I drove through fresh tar) so I'd vouch for his work.

Diluted (maybe 1:10 or something) Simple Green cleaner, sprayed on everything & then rinsed off before it dries works great, and it makes your engine smell pretty.

There is a product out there called Dri-Clean or something like that. It will work in engine bays that don't do well with water. Even steam cleaning can be a problem. Depends on the engine and if certain parts are covered/sealed off properly.
