My padding has velcro on the back
Velcro? You Yankees do everything differently, don't you?
Vincent - I found that the high-density padding was an absolute bear to bend around the curves on the main hoop. (I've seen several cars with padding only on the straight sections of the roll bar, but I can't accurately predict what part of the bar my head will hit in a wreck, so I padded the bends too.) I tried notching it but the sticks kept breaking anyway, and the tie wraps just sliced through the material. I ended up enlisting Dave Blum at K&E to get it right. Turns out that much bigger notches on the inside of the bends did the trick. Of course, after a few weeks the adhesive gave up, probably because I have 2" OD tubing and the padding is made for 1.75". The solution, as always, was duct tape.
