Hi y'all -

I need a sheet of aluminum, 1/4" or 3/16" thick, about 2'x2' or 2'x3', today or tomorrow...

Anyone have something they would part with OR know where I could find it? Local to Cary would be great as I don't have much time to be driving around town these days :)

Thanks!

He mentioned a scrapyard in Durham ... if I can't find anything easier or closer, I may check it out (if I can find time).

Worst case - I'll be making a plywood skidplate for Project SO2 (for temporary use!) The E30's oil pan and rack boots are a bit too "exposed" for my tastes.

Give Piedmont Plastics a call- they're off 70 near Lynn Rd, I think. Matthew used Ultra High-Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) for his undercarriage protection. It's not a "real" skid plate, but it'd be fine for rallycross. I think MJ got it in either 3/16 or 1/4" thickness. Don't know how small a piece they'll sell you, but they might be able to point you someplace else.

What's the place near Jullian's (down town Raleigh) on West st? Damn, just can't think of the name right now. They have a large supply of metal and may have what your looking for.

Dillon will sell full sheets only, last I knew. Also, they sell a lot of Steel and Pipe, but don't stock much aluminum.

Got a hell of a deal on Drill Sets going on right now.!!
1/16-1/2" X 1/64ths, with 3-Flats on shank for "0" slippage in the chuck, split points. $69.00, I think. USA Made, Triumph brand.

Problem solved.

WTF was I thinking - 1/4 would have been overkill. This is 1/8. For the price ($0), beggars can't be choosers:

Now I gotta figure out how to attach a fastener (nut) to the "blind" box cross-section radiator support. I believe some under-car welding may occur this evening, which would be a first for me :)

They go in like a riviet from one side access, and leave behind a threade boss. I have them and the tool to put them in , in various sizes.

Wow, and you just happen to be my co-driver. Isn't that convenient?

So guess what you're doing this evening?

No.

I was going to try to weld steel nuts to the steel radiator support so I would have something to bolt the skidplate to (through holes in it that I haven't drilled yet).

I'm not as stupid as I look :)
