Ken-

Sorry to hear about your R&J experience. Mine was better than yours by far. I had them do a custom headerback system for the old celica. that system included fabricating a flange for the header.

The fabrication was wonderful, and up to the over the axle bend the system was top notch. The part over the axle left a little to be desired, but I've not had time to get back there for tweaking, so I run it as-is.

Right now, the axle hits the exhaust about 1.5-2" before it gets to the bump stops (unacceptable). It would have been very easy for them to check that, but clearly they didn't. I have no doubt that they will fix it for nominal/no charge when I do go back, but that isn't the point. The final weld to the muffler is a bit sloppy too (rather high mis-alignment).

I'm *proably* going to replace the over the axle bend with cut and welded Mandrel U's myself, just because I enjoy that crap. What I really need is to get rid of that bottle neck all together.

Hey, I had a problem with an axle rubbing, too! Thought it was just my luck, or something. :?

They made the straight pipe I used at the rallyx and plan to use all next year for autox & track - axle back section with a glass pack muffler, and it rubs slightly when I hit bumps. Of course that part of the car doesn't move, and the pipe is only around 1/4" from the axle when static, so I don't understand how it could've been goofed up. I tried bending the hangers, but it wouldn't drop down enough to stop the rubbing. The next plan is to get some stiffer hangers (which I was planning to do, anyway) and see if that fixes it.

Stephen and I just got the integra back from R&J. We are quite pleased. We had Robert install a catback system, increasing the piping to 2-1/4, then putting on a straght-through muffler. We're now ready to make a little noise next season . Butt dyno says :woo:
 to R&J

I've had good results at R&J. 2 Years ago I had a straightpipe cat-back made for the DS car. Miranda is using it now on the STi :) Robert also made me a custom downpipe back exhaust early last year for STX. Converted my 3" no cat downpipe into a highflow cat one, then added a 3" cat-back. I was asked, "do you want it to stick out *exactly* where its supposed to , or do you want it as straight as possible". I said straight, so its about 2-3" off the cutout in the bumper. He also made the muffler removable, so I can take it off for events. Custom Work + high flow cat + muffler was ~$300. The only "complaint" I had was that when he was painting his welds he got some silver spray paint on the body of the car underneath.

I'm going back on friday to get a removable straight pipe installed instead of the muffler. On this one, I will sacrifice a little bend to have it come out in the center of the muffler cutout though :) I will also ask for no spray paint please also.

I haven't had any issue with the exhaust hitting on anything (other then the time I forgot to put the downpipe brace on). It has about an inch or less to spare on each side of the pipe in a few places. Can't ask for anything more when replacing a 2.25" exhaust with a 3". I will get some poly hangers from him on friday also, as I did notice more movement out of the exhaust lately.

Ditto on that. I would have had him "hold the spray paint" had I known. He did ours from the cat back and I think was right around $150. Happy with it so far.

Has anyone had R&J (or any local shop) build them a turbo manifold?

I talked to Robert today asking for some references and he suggested I just ask around within the club instead of him digging through his records for a reference...hrmph, not exactly inspiring confidence that he does them very often and he specifically said he hadn't done one for an RX-7 (those high EGT's will expose bad workmanship in no-time flat).

I'm interested in the longevity of his work...as in, how does it handle a few years of abuse.

TIA,
--Ashraf

He's a fabricator, not an engineer. If you have an unusual project, you will need to specify what you want based on your research. He will then build what you tell him.

For those of you involved in this thread, you can see it has been modified. The original poster made a number of complaints against the vendor and posted the experiences here without even telling the vendor of his concerns.

When we created the vendor forum, this is not what we had in mind. The forum rules stated that we wanted you to try and work it out with the vendor before posting here. Those rules have been further strengthened to leave no room for doubt that any negative experiences with a vendor cannot be posted here unless you have tried to resolve it first by stating your problems with the vendor.

We continue to encourage members to share their experiences with vendors, both positive and otherwise, but we really want those of you that have had bad experiences to try and resolve them first, and let us know how that went if it was not to your satisfaction.

Several of the responses have been maintained in this thread because they contain information that may be valuable to the membership.

This thread was changed based on a consensus of the forum team management. This thread is now locked.
