Friend has a Ford Ranger with a autotragic and it's refusing to go into Drive or Reverse, but he can get it to go into 1st or 2nd. My only tangential experience was blowing up my dad's Ford Focus' transmission and they took it to Cottman's in Garner.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I'd say the cheapest, easiest and smartest option is to find a junkyard tranny from the ubiquitous Ranger and go on with life.

I used this shop to replace the tranny in the Cherokee. Local Jeep people swear by him and the price was very reasonable.

Not quite Raleigh, but not that far and highly recommended: Jake's Transmissions. (Next door to The Digital Chassis.)
