I found out at the Danville event that my right rear strut has the adjustment stuck in the full soft position. After talking with a tech guy this morning, he directed me to speak with a rep in the warranty division. Since this is my daily driver, their solution is to charge me half of the list price (~$60 less than the price that Tire Rack has on their website) for a drop shipped strut -- if they determine that the strut is at fault, ie I didn't hit it with an impact wrench, they'll refund my money and I keep the new strut.

Hopefully everything will pan out for the best.

Go ahead and do it. I know plenty of people that have had warranty issues over the years, and Koni is nothing but professional to deal with. If you run into any issues, call me. I have a bunch of contacts I've used over the years, and they would all be willing to help.

Anyone who has had a problem, was credited quickly once they determined the strut had a defect. - AB

Just got the new rear strut in today. They don't have any other instructions other than a packing slip about how to do the return procedure, but that ain't rocket science either.

Just put it in the box they sent you the new one, and slap the label on it... Nothing else is needed. - AB

Just doublechecked: no return label, no RMA number, nada. I figure that a phone call with my transaction number should yield one in a fax whenever I get a chance to install it.

My CC statement indicated that the chargeback occurred about 6 weeks after they received the broken strut. Nice job Koni!

6 weeks? Did you charge them interest? I would ;) At least you have a working shock... - AB

I've gone through the warranty replacement process with the (stock-valved) Konis on my Neon perhaps 5-6 times now. They've always shipped me the replacement struts first, and after I've gotten them swapped out I've sent the busted ones back in the same box. I can't recall if a charge has appeared on my credit card during the replacement period, but Koni has always been very easy to deal with. And they've never given me any grief (so far... ) about the number of replacements I've requested.

Really I should prolly get them replaced more often- I tend to let them get pretty bad before doing anything about it...

Carl, I prepaid 1/2 the cost of a replacement strut ahead of time since it's my only car (for now)
