Yeah that's a good point Chuck. Ann can't move it either. If you let the handle come way up then you need a lot of strength. Let it come up about half way and you can get better leverage. But then you loose that 4 pumps and up feature. Works for me in about 5.

Got the Sam's $130 deal. Very well-constructed/machined/annodized. Extremely PIMP!! 18" lift in 4-5 pumps. Fit's under my lowered Miata, except with the 13" wheels on, where it needs a little help. Very happy with it.
Agree with Whitney: Beware of cheap imitations (this one's made in China!!! :) )

I ordered the HF $89 jack the last part of April... it was shipped within a week. Not sure what the 2-3 month backlog is for some of you. So far I'm happy with it.

I was just out to Harbor Freight today for some other stuff. Indeed their $89 jack is MUCH much smaller than the one I bought at Sams. My recommendation would be to pass on the HF one and go to Sams.

You can ask Rice or Matt Nicholson what they thought of it. They both borrowed it at RR and I believe they are going to get one when they can. Its quite the nice jack.

I just picked up one of the alum. "racing jacks" from Sams Club a few days ago and I have to agree that it appears to be the best deal for those interested in a pimpy racing jack. Price was still $104 and they had at least 10 in stock. :D

For $104 I might go pick up a second one.

I drove to the store in Raleigh last week to get the $90 one. Brought it home and it was DOA. Bled it, topped it up, nothing. Went back again, told them that it didn't work, and they gave me a replacement, which I verified as working in the store.

Note to HF customers - you can get a service agreement on these things. Basically for 12 bucks, you can take the thing back and get a new one, for whatever reason, no questions asked. No kidding, thats exactly what the guy told me. Cheap insurance.

They must have pulled another pallet between then and Monday pm; there were another 20 or so.

The final update from Sam's -- when the wheel came off of the bottom of my jack with my new car in the air, scattering ball bearings all over the driveway, bad things happened. When I returned it to Sam's, they were out of other ones. Good @#$%ing riddance.

Since I started this thread I guess I should post up my results. I got a big Craftsman red aluminum jack from Sears. It cost me $179 on sale. The thing pretty much rocks so far.

The good points.
1. No bleeding needed, even after laying on it's side in the back of the truck for 12 plus hours.
2. It only takes one pump to make contact with the car.
3. Easy to remove the handle.

The only downside is the price. But the few extra bucks seem worth it considering all the issues I've heard with less expensive jacks.

Shawn

And to add to that. The HF aluminum jack that is the higher priced one (usually $140) works great. I get all the same results Shawn got. Except I haven't tried laying mine on its side for day. It comes with 2 caps for the oil fill. One is solid and the other is a self-blleding cap. I put the solid cap on because the self bleeding one spurts out some air and a little oil drops. No loose parts, I checked. 2 removable carry handles. Comes in gold, red, blue but only the gold one was there at the store.

The only thing I think it is missing is a pad on the top part of the handle so you don't bang the car with it.

Graham

Hmmm.....so that's why I had to bleed mine ($140 HF one) twice this year?Mine is stored in my trailer on it's side ALL the time. Other than that I'm happy with mine after almost a year.

BTW Wes, I hope you didn't have the Miata jacked up as high as you do the Contour when the jack fell. :( Why are you the only guy I've ever watched change tires with the jack at the maximum lift height. :? As soon as I have the tires off the ground I stop jacking. :idea2:

My HF $140 jack has been nothing short of great. I've never stored it on it's side, but have jacked the car to max lift in order to change the exhaust, but jackstands then would bear the load.

I think Wes just likes 'jacking' waaayyyy too much. - AB
