I'm going to be picking up an open trailer so I can start towing the Miata instead of driving it around. Combination of wanting to be able to take some more comfort items with us when Laura and the general uncomfortableness of it on the street. (Plus then all that pesky emissions stuff can go away)

The main problem I have now is that I don't have anywhere on my property I could reasonable store it. Best thing I could do on my property is to push the car/trailer into the garage space provided it's not too wide or too tall. The angle on my driveway would make backing it completely in not possible.

Was anyone else in a similar boat as me? I'd like to be able to pick it up any time and have it stored somewhere in the Southpoint area. I got a quote from Brassfield Self Storage for $45/mo for a month to month deal. Not sure what they would do on a 6mo/12mo contract.

What kind of angle are you talking about? If I'm not mistaken, you should have 10ft between your house and your property line. Have a concrete pad poured on the side of the house and park it there.

Most HOA's will not allow a trailer unless it is hidden from view. Figure in the cost of the pad, it probably is a lot cheaper to store it.

The $45 a month is a pretty good deal. I pay $80 a month to store my enclosed trailer.

Make sure you scout the storage location really well. Look for things like ease of access to your spot, is there enough room for you to back it in. Lighting...don't forget you will be dropping it off in the dark sometimes. If you are pulling it out on a Saturday, will you have trouble negotiating around the people at their little storage rooms.

One word of advice, trailering your car opens up another set of issues. Storage costs, taxes, tow vehicle, license (trailer and weighted truck plates), your day is not done when you leave the venue. Another two axles and four tires to worry about.

You get home at 7 or 8 o'clock Sunday night and then have to unload the car and take the trailer back to storage...add another 45 minutes onto your night.

The enclosed trailer is nice though. I get home at 10 o'clock Sunday night from Summit, back it alongside of the house (requires a couple attempts at that hour and being dead tired), unhook and go inside grab a beer. I usually unload Tuesday and get the trailer to storage Thursday night :-)

HOA? What is that??

My parking pad along with the driveway extension to get to it cost $2000, 6yrs ago. When I used to get home at 8:00, I just left the car on the trailer and went to bed.

$45/month for 6 yrs is over $3000, so cost is a wash, IMO.

It's not so much an angle but that part of the driveway doesn't exist. The pad necks down to about 1.5 cars then widens up again. I'd end up on the grass pretty bad to get the trailer in.

I'll let you know after I check the place out if that would be possible. I'm going to try and make it out there this weekend sometime, if not sometime next week.

While the HOA would likely let me leave the car/trailer in my driveway for as long as I wanted I don't think they would be too happy about a pad, plus the property line cuts rather close to the corner of my house so I'd likely be infringing on the buffer space.

This is good advice especially the info about what to look for at the storage lot.

You guys need a place like mine. 3.4 acres surrounded by trees across the street from Raleigh. Too bad it isn't for sale until I'm too old and infirm to value it. Don't hold your breath.
