Good question. I think we have a problem of "tinkeritits" with all the PA stuff.

Scott, VK and I put one of these remote PA systems together 3 years ago. I havent seen it in awhile.

I heard someone took it apart and installed the radio in the bus for the times where it's daily driven. Not sure why we cannibalized a perfectly good remote PA system when we could have gotten a $50 head unit (or less) from Walmart or PepBoys instead?

Scott

Perfectly good my ass, what are you talking about Scott? What a piece of junk. It was totally falling apart, had been sitting in the trailer for 6+ months without being used. And there wasn't room for it in the trailer because it used those gigantic speakers. I think we used it once. It only got set up when Rob cared to do it. No offense Rob. Rob's working on a redesign.

Repeat after me everyone -- if it doesn't work with a flip of a switch, or it's fragile, and it's not absolutely needed to run the events, eventually it won't be used.

Good in theory? Yes, just like the awning that NO ONE EVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT. And the generator plan, and the solar plan, etc etc etc.

So if anyone has thoughts about a good pit speaker talk to Rob. Be sure to brainstorm things like how it will always work, be charged, etc.

Isn't that illegal to have that on a non-emergency vehicle?

Illegal to have, no. Illegal to use (on-road), yes.

Ever seen the flashing lights on a school bus, mail carrier, etc? I doubt we'd have to worry about the legal issue.

IMO, if we had a train horn, Bat signal, or whatever people still would be late for their work assignments.

Hey, just in case you guys were wondering, instead of sitting around in your armchairs inventing bus and PA conspiracy theories about "someone" (me) doing things you "can't explain" (making decisions),

Why don't you just ask? Or, heaven forbid, come out and actuall take on the projects that y'all seem to be having "issues" with?

Maybe I have had too much coffee today. Sorry. Some stuff is hitting a nerve.

you sound like you feel underappreciated Mike. You most definitely are not (at least not by me), thanks for doing all that you do.

I saw the bus leaving the grassy knoll in the Zapruder film.

evidently in the far north people dont care. here... folks do things for offroad, off highway use people dont care, only on public road can you not use stuff like that.. (to my knowledge) remember the old hillbilly patrol chevy.. from years back.. he was dressed up like a cop car.. and people dont care.. off highway you can do what ever you want realy. needs to be removable, that way cops dont care

OK, I repeated that for the last week, and finally acted on it. I've taken the liberty of throwing out the timing equipment. All of it.

I took the liberty of buying some stopwatches. They are reliable and all we really need for running an event

My recollection is that we used the wireless PA extensively in 2005. I only ran 5 events in '06 and I wasn't paying attention so I don't know about then. I do remember a Danville event in '05 where Triad officers told me how cool it was and that it was a great idea.

Yeah, it was a bit of a pain to set up, but it did get set up periodically, and was mighty useful. I'm thinking that it didn't work well with our jump-start batteries and that might have been what killed it.

I agree, it's needed. You need to take this conversation up with Rob. He was with me when we first diagnosed the wireless PA, and told me he was replacing it with a better/more compact easier to use model. That's when I salvaged the stereo.

Umm, the scoring equipment is needed to run our events. Has been for 10+ years.

Back to the original topic. An orange light bar like those on wreckers or DOT vehicles probably would not get us in trouble with the law, and would be handy for signalling events like the drivers' meeting, trophies, or worker changes at sites (like Laurinburg and Sanford) where the bus PA cannot be heard from the paddock or the course.

Failing a light bar, surely Vincent could provide an alternative.
