A couple of things have worn out during the season and will probably need to be fixed after the season ends. These are just the things that I've noticed, if you can think of more, add them here.

1. The invertor on the right side makes alot of fan noise and is driving your T&S crew to drink. Should be easy enough to swap it out with a comparable unit.

2. The radio that we use for the Raw Sheets person has broken insulation on the wire. Again, cheap and easy to get from Radio Shack. I might just go buy this and submit the receipt, if that's OK.

3. This is the most important one, the floor under the airconditioner has gotten soft. I'm sure this is from the condensation dripping there.

A few more:

- Send in the JAC boxes for a "tuneup", and have the XLR connectors replaced (they wear out, and they are suspected in part in the timing problems this weekend)
- Replace ALL of the connectors on ALL of the timing cables.
- Evaluate the laser heads, replace all connectors.

Heck now that I think about it, just send everything back to JAC and ask them to test, replace, repair anything they can find wrong. The timing equipment is too important to let fall into disrepair. Yes, someone here may be able to work on it, but I think the JAC guy(s) would have more insight, and money gets things done!

Also -

- Send the Chronimix display to a repair center to have it thoroughly reconditioned. I have the gigantic blue shipping container here in my attic.

Excellent thread, you beat me to starting this as Vincent and I discussed this on the way home yesterday.

We are at a point that we dont need to try and get club members to try to fix the electronic stuff. Lets send all this stuff out ASAP after the November event to get up to snuff.

Cables- Why dont we just trash what we have and start new. Im sure those cables are pretty long in the tooth. IF we decide this is necessary lets get cable lengths that are near the max of the recomend length. That way we arent stringing together 2 or 3 cables.

Heads- Does JAC make those too?

Anything else that needs some love? Did we ever FIX the exhaust?

Those are JAC as well. One has a fubared mount from getting hit at Danville.

I don't think so. If we did it sure has a heck of a rattle at idle.

IMO we need to get the bus to Randy' shop to get a high idle setup installed too.

Can someone get the model number off of the radio for me? I can't seem to find it on their website but maybe if I have the model number, it will be easier.

The radio should be in the same drawer as the JAC boxes.

Let me ask what may be a dumb question -- why do we need a base station at all? I have never had a problem using a regular hand-held radios in T&S. I like them better in fact because of no wire.

The base station, when the antenna is placed on the bus roof, does a lot better picking up the far worker stations at Laurinburg.

No, the exhaust still rattles.

We also need to relocate the reserve battery box for the trailer brakes so it doesn't get stepped on when people climb over the trailer, or put something around it so it doesn't get broken when stepped on.

We probably need someone to do a thorough cleaning and waxing of it. Graham I think will volunteer as he probably has left over bandages and pain pills.

I've been thinking about that and Carl is right. For long sites like L'burg and Sanford, the extra power of the base unit is nice. But I'm going to research stronger handhelds for the bus. Maybe even one that is capable of using a headset with a boom mic so the raw sheets person can hear calls over Walter's car.

This seems to come up several times a year -- I totally agree -- A headset for the raw sheets person would not only work better, it also reinforces the "Leave Me Alone" look that T&S needs to continue to project.

The person working the computer needs to hear the cone calls and DNFs as well to get them in the 'puter. Would you hook up both T&S workers with the headsets?

That's what I was thinking about. But I'm having a hard enough time finding a radio that supports one headset, let alone two. I'm still looking though. I'll find something.

It's not such a big deal for the computer person- they have more time to react, and can always look over at the raw sheet to verify they have their penalties right (this should already be their habit). Worst case, if they miss a cone call or DNF it should be caught by the audit. The raw sheet person is critical, however.

Todd - all of our handhelds have a jack for a headset. At most sites this would work fine.

Also, the computer guy can keep using a handheld to hear calls. I think the headset would be most useful for raw sheets.
