DMANIT! didn't see that.

They may send a reporter to the events this weekend, they are interested in doing a story on the club and autocrossing. 8)

Not having the web address might prevent twenty sixteen year olds from arriving, parents in tow, looking for a drivers' education experience.

Not only did they spell the URL incorrectly, they managed to put an extra ")" in it. Oh well.

In spite of this, we've had at least 1 email and I've had a few phone calls this evening as a direct result of the article. At least some people were smart enough to figure out the correct link on their own.

As everybody else said, nice job Chuck!

Jim

Chuck,

No fixing a paper article that might have gotten published, but, if you know how to contact someone at the N&O about the article, they could (& might) correct the online URL.

Uh - oh. Time to reinstate the entry limits. Or perhaps "improve" the online directions to the site.

:soap: Seriously, if we do get an influx of young drivers as a result of this article, we will need to be on our best behavior, and be almost boorish in our insistence that the aggressive driving techniques we use on the autocross course are not to be repeated on the street. It's the other things we learn about car control while learning to autocross that come in handy on the street in emergency situations and bad weather.

Also, we might want to reprise Ron Spencer's old driver's meeting practice of reading the insurance waiver out loud, to remind people of what they've signed up for. When was the last time you actually read the waiver?

That's hilarious. I did not know he did that! I have read the waiver, and some of the things it says are amazing.

There are actual words on the insurance waiver?!?!?!?!?!?

Why don't we tell them not to have sex while we're at it? Telling this to a teenager is not a responsibility THSCC needs. I can see the headline now..."Teen involved in accident after attending car control school". Parents to file suit against THSCC for teaching kids how to drive fast.

I know Chuck had the best intentions, but IMO we (THSCC) don't want/need the attention from any print or electronic media. IIRC, Mike Whitney was approched by a TV reporter about doing a story on our activities at the RBC Center. Mike declined after deciding the attention it would get us would most likely not be all positive and may attract the F&F element to our events.

I have to agree with Vincent here. One of the phone calls I delt with last night was a woman wanting to bring her son out with his learners permit. She was shocked that we wouldn't allow it and thought that this was when he "needed our help the most". I had to explain to her that we were not a driver's education type program. I hope these people are actually going to our website and making an effort to understand what autocross is.

You guys are looking at this wrong. There's opportunity for the club here. There was a "driver's education" group at Sanford one saturday before our Sunday autocross. They charged over $300 for the entry fee to that.

We just need someone to step up and take over our new defensive driving program.
