Due to all the S___t going on with Credit Card Security and Identity Theft, I am considering closing my PayPal account, since it it also linked to my bank.

That brings up the issue of THSCC charging MEMBERS $5 extra for autocross entry if paid at the event rather than using PayPal. I have always disagreed with this policy, but put up with it to accomodate our registration folks who would rather not handle cash. Now I'm having second thoughts about it:

Not everyone in our club uses a computer as their only commmunication device. Some of us still use the phone, and actually patronize our local businesses and sponsors when supporting our car habit, rather than using a keyboard.

I think that our members deserve the option to pay for their entry fee at the event in cash, check, IOU on a matchbook, or a handshake. This business of penalizing CLUB MEMBERS $5 per event just because cash is "obsolete" to some folks is unfair. Some members either don't care to expose their bank account any more than is necessary over the internet, or just simply find it more convenient to pay at the event.

If we want to charge non-members an extra $5, I guess that's probably acceptable, but, hey, we need to make accomodations for members who just want to show up and run.

Our precedent: Our Track program accepts PayPal, but charges the same if paid by check.

And don't tell me to mail my check to THSCC for every event until you talk to our Treasurer about the additional work and reporting that would entail.

I invite your scorn and comments!

Scorn:

We won't accept an IOU on a matchbook, there are too many shady characters in our club.

Other than that, point taken, and we're actually almost a step ahead of you. Stay tuned for changes in payment methods, etc.

Thanks for your support.

The management.

Scott

Brad, in the meantime, payment is acceptable by check and it is the same amount as if you paid with Paypal. There are currently four ways to prepay for events at the reduced fee.

Mailed to the registrar
At the meetings
Year long pass
or Paypal.

But like Scott said, I think this is a place we can simplify our processes a little.

I guess paying in advance sorta guarantees you'll show up at the event, but I thought it a curious sytem otherwise since accepting paypal payments reduces the clubs revenue by the paypal fee on each transaction.
Brad,
It may be a pain, but you could open a "paypal only" bank account with a minimal balance in it.

Brad - I have an easy solution for you.

Run for President. President doesn't have to pay for autocrosses. Heck, he doesn't even really need to register. Why do you think I did it?

Damn, Mike.
Why didn't I think of that!!??

Not sure I'm presidential material. Besides, I would basically need to serve in absentia due to my travel schedule. Then you guys would be stuck with Holton running all the meetings. Scary thought, that.

BUT.

Hmmmmm.... free autocrosses, eh?
