I finally have some new info regarding the EV Challenge.

http://www.evchallenge.org/ (for general info)

We need one (or two at most) volunteers for the Friday event at the Shearon Harris plant (April 1). Your job will be two-fold.

1) Drive the bus to the event (no trailer needed).
2) Help announce the event (15-20 cars driving in slow circles, it isn't supposed to be hard to keep up).
2b) Troubleshoot the PA as needed (*if* needed).

You will need to get the bus to the event by late morning (10-11AM) and will be there until about 5PM.

I've got a good list of folks for Saturday at Wakefield High School in Wake Forest (and will be confirming with those folks soon).

I'd like to have the course set up by about 8AM Saturday morning. To do that we'll need an early start (I'm thinking 6AM). If you aren't an early morning person, don't worry, we don't need everyone there for setup (only 2 or 3 people required for setup - and probably all that is desired). By first car off (10AM), we need a full contengent for course work (probably 5 people to work the course, and another 2 people to work the bus).

I'll update this list with volunteers as I hear from folks. If you want to come out on Saturday, please let me know if you are interested in setup or not.

Friday: Chris Schimmel, Charles Wolthusen

Saturday:

Scott Johnson (setup. bus driver)
Sally Johnson (setup)
Jim Pastorius (course designer)
Mike Dishman
Joe Dobner
Chris Landi (setup)
Patrick Wellenius
Gordon Taylor
Cathie Taylor
Stephen Westerfield
George Bright
Rob Harvey (setup)
Vincent Keene
Sonya Rouse

If all the folks who originally volunteered are still available, then we are in good shape for Saturday, we just need one person for Friday (David Teague - this job is screaming your name).

As usual, people that put in a day of volunteer time get rewarded with a free event. This is a big deal for our club, since it's one of the "big" annual fundraisers that we do.

Scott

I can be at the event at 6:00am on Saturday to help with set-up. Can you use an inexperienced person for that?

It's almost better that way. One experienced course designer, and one helper that doesn't have enough sense to get in the way :)

It's also a good time to learn how to set up the timers, etc.

We have plenty of volunteers for Saturday. It's a cool event, so if yall want to come out and watch that's fine too.

Setup will be Jim Chris and I (6-8AM). If a few more folks trickle in between 8-10Am then everyone by 10AM that would be great. If we have a few extra workers, we might do half day shifts.

I still need a volunteer for Friday.

This Friday (April 1). You would need to drive the bus (without the trailer) to the Nuclear plant. Turn on the PA, and start announcing for the EV Challenge guys. "And teh blue Ford EXP screams past at 5 mph, he's late braking into turn 1 to pass the purple Accord..."

Unfortunately, for anyone doing this a half day of vacation (minimum) is invloved.

Scott,

Wakefield is only 5 minutes from my house, so I will also plan on being there on Sat morning at 6am. I can even stop and pick up some breakfast if you like :-)

I will have to leave to coach soccer from 8:30 to 10:30 (42 overly energetic 6 year olds!). I should be back around 10:45.

I plan to go over to Mike's place on Wed afternoon to finish mounting the PA hardware we changed at Lauringburg. I will also write out simple instructions on how to run the PA. I do not forsee the need for any troubleshooting. If you can flip on the power switch, you'll be good to go (volumes will be preset so there will not be a feedback issue).

Looks like we have a full crew for both days. I appreciate the support!

I've also confirmed that we will be running rain or shine, so check the forecast and dress accordingly.

We have also been invited to participate at their dinner on Friday night. If any of the Friday/Saturday volunteers are interested, they should go to "Fire Mountain" in Cary Friday evening at about 7PM.

If you plan to go to dinner let me know, I'd like to make sure we have some representation there.

Regarding the PA.....

To operate the PA:
- flip on the switch in the front of the bus labeled "PA Power"
- grab either the wired mic or wireless mic and switch it to "on"
- talk all you want and have fun!!

Reverse the steps to shut down the PA.

Notes:
- When you are not talking, turn the mic off.
- volumes have been preset to prevent feedback
- The wireless mic is in the plastic bin (next to PA equip) and has a new battery already installed
- The FM transmitter is setup as well and will be broadcasting on 91.1
- Call me if you have any questions
