Despite what my neighbors may think, I am not planning to keep the bus at my house indefinitely :)

Now that work is wrapping up we need to find a storage place for the new rig. The old spot is not an option, as we were already 4' over their max length with the old bus, and they won't let us bring something even longer.

I have a few options but I wanted to see if anyone out there knows of someone with a large lot on my side of town who may entertain the idea of storing the bus. Ideally it would be somewhere with easy access, either behind a locked gate OR near a house where people actually live to deter theft.

Of course we usually end up needing to access it 1-2 times per month, sometimes at off hours.

I would love to find someone in the club who could let us use some space for free, but we will pay a small amount per month for a good situation, since we will end up paying $50-60 at a typical storage place if no other options are found.

For 2005 I'd like to keep it within about 5-10 miles of my house max. That really confines it to Jordan Lake to the west, downtown Cary to the east, south side of RTP to the north, and US 64 to the south.

I realize it's outside of your defined boundry, but if you have no other replies, I have 4 acres at my house in Wake Forest. My back yard is completely screened off from the front and the club is welcome to store the van here if needed (at no charge).

Hmm, we may have a winner!!!

Currently, the regular autocross bus driver (a job he doesn't want forever) lives in Morrisville, and the regular Rallycross bus driver lives at Mike Whitney's house in Cary.

It also happens that south-Cary is between many potential drivers and most of our sites. With that info, I'd agree with Mike. Somewhere in the Cary/Morrisville area seems most convenient. Ideally, we'd be finding a long term solution right now, but *any* solution that gets the bus out of Mikes driveway would be best (I know what I'd think of my neighbor if that things was parked next door 24-7).

I know a place in North Durham that we could get for cheap, but we might need to buy new stuff on a regular basis...

Bumping this back up. There are only a few more things to do on the bus so it's time to find a new home.

If you live out in this area PLEASE start looking around for a good place to park it. There are a number of storage places out on hwy 64 that we could consider. Anyone who drives around out this way please post up any recommendations of leads to follow, or call around yourself! Overall length is about 40', and we need good maneuvering room for drivers not used to backing up a trailer.

Any other club-friendly shops or businesses we should talk to? Or companies who would trade storage for advertising?

Just curious why we're not returning to the same place we used to store it on 55?

If nobody in the preferred area speaks up, it's welcome at our place.

Because some bastard named Anders is using one of the only spots we could use.

CSH said that our OLD bus at 36' was too big for the spot it was in. He "was told" way back when that the old bus was 28 feet, his limit for the spots on the sides. He let our overage slide, but won't let something even further over the limit in there. Besides, it would be very, very tough to back a trailer into that spot. We need something with more "drive straight before backing" room.

He said the only place for something 40' long is at the end of that lot backed up to the cliff. Y'know, where you are! I asked him to give me a call when there was a cancellation, but I'm not holding my breath.

Too bad none of us still work at UL in RTP (Miles, Jason, and I used to). It has downsized so drastically in the US in general and RTP in particular that they probably could use the rent money.

Hey, I only rented a spot there after I heard that the Club did! ;)

I _do_ get nervous hanging five feet of trailer off that cliff sometimes...

My van/trailer combo is 43' 4". I wish I had as much parking as you do so that I could have the option of having it at my house! :(

I have to admit it's very, very nice to have some space. Home builders just don't build houses/lots for car enthusiasts, so we planned our own :) Let's see... I have 7 cars, the bus and trailer, and my own 2 trailers parked here. It's a little tight right now :) I'm glad I don't have more space, since I would just have more cars!
