I was supposed to hear back on what the Maggie Valley organizers were prepared to commit to us today. I didn't.... and I had told them we cannot even evaluate this "opportunity" properly until we know what incentives they can offer. If and when I get those details, I will be sure to pass them along right away. We may have an evaluation of the lot by somebody that has actually autocrossed before on Monday. We'll see.
Graham.. just a few thoughts on your post:

All the NCCC clubs already have events planned. NCCC uses the 3 major 3-day weekends to run events. Memorial Day, The 4th, Labor Day. These are posted in Dec/Jan. So I doubt this would sway them. Also the Corvette Forum annual Cruise-In is a big sell out. Bowlng Green will be mobbed with Vettes that weekend. I've never been but it is a great event from what I have heard. The Maggie Valley event will not get those people to switch. That has been planned for a year.
Graham, I'm sure the things you listed will have an impact. You must remember though that the Corvette Forum is a national, if not international forum. This event would apply to a fairly regional crowd, so I'm not surprised if it isn't making a big buzz. And the Maggie Valley folks have not done much to get the word out yet. The big autocross weekend events that NCCC runs I would think affect mostly autocrossers, which is a very small percentage of those that would sign up for this weekend Corvette deal.
This event in Maggie Valley is not being marketed at all as an autox event. The autox part is somewhat of an after thought. If we do it, they will list it as an optional activity, but this is not intended to mimic a NCCC autox. The Bowling Green event might affect their numbers some and the Maggie Valley organizers are aware that is a competing interest. I was told yesterday by the organizer that some folks which had already signed up for the Bowling Green event decided to go to Maggie Valley because they had already been to Bowling Green so many times. So who knows how many people they will draw?
I think if we ran an autox there, that one way to ensure we don't take a bath financially is to allow a fairly high entry and market it to other autocrossers in the region. We are allowed to have our own members and anybody else for that matter, participate if we run an autox. We just have to be careful that we have plenty of spots for the Corvette guys as well.
It is entirely possible that all that will come of this is that THSCC gets an opportunity, sometime later this year, to run an event of our own there for our THSCC mountain getaway, IF we wanted to do that. I don't know about you, but Maggie Valley sounds a lot nicer in July or August the summer heat of some of our typical bake in the sun sites!
Stay tuned.
