Too bad the shot clock ruined it.

The ultimate course design insult (and I regret that I cannot find the old course map) is an element once used at the old Morrisville site -- the "Spitzner Spirochete". A 720 degree counterclockwise spiral to a pivot cone in the center and a 720 degree clockwise spiral to the exit.

...and to think people yelled at Rodney for his "onion" at Maxton.

I really mean no offense to whoever is running that NCAC FB page, but whatever is going on there is also a cluster in the making. You have multiple people who are posting under the NCAC FB account. So instead of there being a single voice from that one account (announcements, etc.) you have it appear like that account is having a psychotic episode and arguing with itself. While a few (Zach and Anthony) have added a signature to posts, I generally have no idea who is taking to me on that page. Not to mention one of the multiple personalities is not very friendly! No clue who that is.

I will say that Zach and other club members seem to be trying to keep their cool.

FYI All THSCC folks have had their adminship of that page demoted to "editor" which allows us to post but not manage anything on it. The other 4 clubs all have members who are admins of the page. I would like to disassociate THSCC from that page as much as possible as soon as this event is over.

Thanks Zach. I am sure this is nothing but a mental drain for you and the other officers.

I am doing nothing but reading this stuff and not participating in the FB discussion because I am not participating in NCAC, but I have to tell you... It is pushing the cynical side of me enough that I am fearful of becoming another Remchak (angry and anti-autocross). ;)

I will say that all of this is not good for the sport. Especially any newbie watching it all going on. They likely are thinking... "Not for me. I was looking for fun." I know that is mostly out of the control of you guys. :(

"NCAC CANCELED" That would be the entirety of my input.

I've not seen ("heard of") such BS bickering outside of sprint racing. (a day of bitching coming down to collecting video from every car and corner station to eventually figure out who's bumper was ahead of who at a corner.)

Finally. I've been looking for a new line for my signature.

To a newbie, it strikes me as very elitist to step away from the club median metric.

This club has been nothing but encouraging to me to attend NCAC even if both PAX and driver skill are against me putting in a competitive time. I wonder if the atmosphere is as welcoming in other clubs, but my gut tells me that those folks are more concerned about winning than encouraging folks to participate in the sport.

I agree, it's a NCAC, it's not a real championship, at least not anymore, so what's the harm in doing the whole club median thing?

I've never even been to one of these but nothing about it strikes me as it being a real championship. In my opinion it looks and should just be a giant autocross where all the clubs in the state participate.

If you want a real championship go run nationals or something. Leave this one to have some fun. It's obviously going to be skewed no matter which way you do it. The bigger the club the more likely they are to have more faster drivers. Some areas just don't simply have as many people in the sport, so the area the club runs in is going to have more or less drivers anyway.

Hopefully you'll still make eye contact and talk to us at events? :D

Next event Chris registers for gets George's 4-pivot cone element...

I can only dream to be a "nationals snobs" ;)

In all seriousness, I am not a fan of painting an entire group with a wide brush. So as much as it appears there are issues with a group of people, I can't draw a circle around all of those who compete at the highest level and point a finger at them. The label I would use is "jerks" and they make them in many flavors.

In short, I have a lot of respect and admiration for those that take the sport seriously enough to compete at that level.

Richard

Thanks Richard!

I would like to weigh in on the "median time" thing, because my perspective is different than "I wish my time would be counted" / "it's elitist not to include everyone." This is great if you are a confident person, but two people get hurt by this plan:

1. "I am new and I wouldn't want to hurt my club so I better not go out, I will definitely reduce our score." No, this is not me, but it would have been, five-six years ago. Well actually, it wouldn't, because I'm an asshole and I would have signed up under another club and hurt their times instead. ;) Which, by the way, is another fault in this plan - it is open to sabotage.
2. "I usually am half decent but today I had two DNFs and a spin and now I will not show my face for a year because I will be such a pariah, I can't believe I ran a 125 on a 40-second course." Yeah, I realize a median is not a mean and so there's only SO MUCH that one bad time can hurt you. But if you put yourself in the shoes of people with a lot of anxiety (most people on this thread do not qualify, so really try to empathize with some SERIOUS social anxiety here)... well, I just don't know any reason to make this person feel like a shit.

I won't personally feel the effects either way, because (as previously noted) I'm an asshole, and I am also unlikely to score in either the top or bottom 10 of ANY club (except Highland, where I might could be in both, and perhaps I shall!). But I think anything that discourages participation in an event of this size should be avoided, since (IMO) inclusion and mixing of clubs and FUN! are the primary goals.
