I think it is more the people who blanket complain "THSCC loves pivot cones.". While completely discounting that having them makes a 35 second site into a 45 second site.
What's actually funny about the whole pivot-cone-saga with some people, is that there is a HUGE amount you can learn about car control and autocrossing by becoming *really* good at pivot cone execution -- especially pivot cones that have a high approach speed. Just consider how complex and detailed a properly done pivot cone element is along with the huge skills acquisition opportunity it represents: (1) the ability to judge the proper braking application point and going from maximum acceleration at 50mph to threshold braking in the smoothest possible fashion, (2) the ability to transition from threshold braking into smooth trailbraking on turn-in so you reach peak cornering g's at the back-sided-late-apex of the cone just after coming off the brake completely all the while thinking about that inside rear tire, (3) the ability to smoothly roll on full throttle on track out from the cone and get ready for the next element.
That entire process of dealing with a high speed entry pivot cone element is literally filled with many of the car control skills you need to be successful in autocross. If you can't master a pivot cone element, you are not up to your potential elsewhere in autocross (imo of course

).

Anyone remember "Drag me to Sanford?"
Brice, was that Sanford event an end of the year fun event about 10 years ago where I think Walter had the 1/10 mile flying finish coming back up the taxiway? I remember taking the M5 to that event and having a blast getting deep into 3rd. It seems like there might have been another point on that course where I was got deep into 3rd also (90+ mph).
