YES, IT'S TRUE! After many years without a rally, club founder Bowie Gray is bringing back to life the sport of road rallying. This is the activity upon which THSCC was started. A Sunday afternoon drive in the country, the driver and navigator follow written directions at specified average speeds, attempting to arrive at surprise checkpoints at just the right time as calculated by the rally master. Points are awarded for being too early or too late, with the lowest score winning.

The 50th Anniversary Road Rally will be held on Sunday, November 2nd, and is a TSD (Time/Speed/Distance) rally covering approximately 75 miles of all paved roads in Nash and Wilson counties just east of Raleigh.

The rally will start across the street from the Hardee's Restaurant at the intersection of US264-Alt and Highyway 581 in Bailey, NC in the parking lot for Innovative Builders, LLC and ends with a party - where the route instructions will direct you! Event checkin begins at 12:00 noon. To learn more about how the rally works, read the Road Rally General Instructions.

A Car Team consists of a driver and a navigator. No other persons above the age of 10 are allowed in the car.

Entrants must choose either of two classes:

  • Stock: Using only the car's stock dashboard instruments, pencil/pen and paper
  • Equipped: Using any additional equipment not listed in Stock, such as hand calculators, computers (that includes smartphones), or other non-factory installed average speed calculating equipment.

Event entry fee is $25 per Car Team. This event is for THSCC members and their guests. Entry fee includes after-rally party with food and drinks. We also need volunteers to help run the event, those volunteers will get free food & drink at the afterparty (there is an option on the registration form for this).

Eo enter, please visit the event page on MotorsportReg: http://msreg.com/THSCC50YEARS

Where can we find more info about the party itself if we can't make the road rally?

Low key like it's not open to a lot of people? I'm signed up, but I'm not going to be able to make the road rally. Thinking about just coming to the party though.

I'm hoping we get a good mix of current and past members, be good to see some old faces. The event is open to everyone, so come 1, come all....

It is highly likely I will be there. I just need to work out a few details. It will be my first THSCC event in a number of years! So hopefully the clock can be reset on the "when was the last time you were at an event" ribbing! ;)

Well I'm not sure how to say this, but, WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON IN THE TARHEEL SPORTS CAR CLUB????? About one week to go and only nine cars signed up for the 50th anniversary rally and party. Is this what a politically correct club does, not participate? What happened to you guys in my absence. This is a fun event. That both husband and wife can participate in with a party at its end. Everyone that joined this club and put social events on their application, this is your chance to do a fun rally and socialize. And for those who haven't done a rally it's a low key event and fun drive through some pretty scenic roads at a period of time when fall colors will enhance the scenery. So don't sit on your thumbs get off your duff and participate!!!

I have one couple not THSCC members that would like to enter the rally, can I invite them as guests??? Due to the low turn out I've been soliciting this event with other car types.

Considering we only have 10 drivers signed up at this time, I'd say yes, go ahead and issue the invite. They can sign up on MSR, it's not closed to just members.

So right now we have 10 drivers and 15 folks coming the party only. This is the last week of sign up, so come on down and have some fun this weekend!

In regard to the party, Bowie has stepped this up and it will be catered. Here's the info from Bowie...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
For the rally finish and party, the menu has changed, we'll now have a buffet ham dinner consisting of ham, potatoe salad, green beans and rolls, with iced tea, sodas and beer. The first cars should get to the finish about 4:15 or so. We have tables and chairs already lined up and Ellen has recruited some friends to help. So all's taken care of. We just need folks to participate.

The address is 10624 Old Smithfield Road, Bailey, NC. Directions to the house for those not doing the rally are as follows:
Take Bailey exit off US264 and go toward the town of Bailey (right at the top of the off ramp if coming from the Raleigh direction, left if coming from the Greenville direction), then turn left at the traffic light onto US264-Alt. Go a little more than two miles and turn left onto Old Smithfield Road at a crossroad. Follow Old Smithfield Road several miles to a stop sign, go straight thru the stop and the house will be the 10th house on the left, across the road from a big red barn. It's a farm house, out in the country. Look for the THSCC sign. Sometimes a GPS will not take you to the correct house.
