Kudoz to LRR. After all the crap it took to make all the safety systems on the Lexus happy -- 4 wheel dyno setup to drag the rear wheels so the car would actually run. 164whp in full power mode, by that time with mostly dead batteries. [2010 Lexus HS 250h, on paper 180HP - 110 from the 2.4L engine and 70 from the electrics]

Not a great day for my Miata - only 98HP. :( Time to spend some money tuning up... maybe I shouldn't have just ignored/cleared that CEL about emissions something or other last month. I'm guessing cats/O2's/etc...

Not sure which part of my Dyno sheet is correct though. It almost looks like I have reverse VTAK (yo) with my torque going from 125 ft*lbs at 4,600 to 115 at 5,000. That and it sounded like the spark cut was kicking in at around 6,800 RPM instead of 7,400 like it should.

Your torque comes on strong, very similiar to my curve in the 1.9. I wonder what would happen if you kept the intake cam in the same position as you have in the lower rpm range. It looks like the potential exists for big gains.

Wow, that is low. Have you changed the plug wires lately? Clogged cat or air filter?

Great day and great company. Special thanks to LRR and Dustin for setting this up.

350hp/342tq - great baseline for a stock (powertrain, anyway) 11 year old M5. After the tune I'll bring it back. Then again after the supercharger. Oh wait, nevermind on that last part.

The torque drop pretty much exactly lines up with when the VVT cam goes from advanced to retarded and the cam being overly advanced will murder your top end. Going to check this out sometime today and hope I'm off a tooth on the intake cam. Doesn't exactly explain the artificial spark limit at 6800 though.

e:
Figured out a way I could glean the relationship between my intake cam and crank from the Megasquirt settings and I'm indeed off a tooth.

So, I typed up a big response on here last night but somehow it disappeared. :?: Oh well I'll try again.

Glad you figured it out James, that was a nasty dip in torque, maybe next time you can beat my bone stock Miata of course next time I'll have intake and exhaust so hopefully a few more hps. :P

Dustin, first thanks for putting this together and working with me to get both vehicles dynoed. There is definitely something going wrong with your car, as I stated yesterday my '96 with just and cat-back made 107 whp, yours should be at least a few more than 110 I would think unless you've lost compression somehow. Have you done a check?

As for my cars, the bone stock '08 Miata made 128 whp and 119 wtq, if you believe the 166 factory crank rating that is a 23% drivetrain loss, a bit excessive especially when you compare it to the Marcus' S2K with only a 15% drivetrain loss, but regardless 128whp is on the high end of the stock NC dyno plots I've seen so I was happy with that.

As for the new to me tow rig, kudos to the LRR guys for working diligently to allow dynoing, since the 4WD can't be completely shut off it had to be strapped to both rollers and they had to go through a great deal of work to make that happen and sorry to those who dynoed after me who had to wait through all that. They couldn't get an RPM signal do to the hidden coil packs but did get 243whp number which was in line with what I was expecting.

So my intake cam was a tooth off, just fixed the belt over the last hour. Next time I should handily defeat Les.

I did plugs and wires shortly after getting the car, but I guess that's been like 7 years, though very occasional driving - I think I've put 17k miles on the car since I bought it. I did have to replace an O2 shortly after buying the car (replaced with a used one of unknown vintage, but it worked and cleared the CEL), and just popped an emissions related CEL after the last track day with the car related to O2 (preheat something or other, IIR)... I suspect something in this area.

No, car has given me no reason to suspect any issues thus far, other than feeling a bit more sluggish than I thought it should. Comp/Leakdown is on the list, now, since these are relatively easy to check.

For me, that check engine/emissions issue would be first on the list. You are down at least 15hp at the wheels, so something like a faulty oxygen sensor may have caused a rich condition leading to a clogged cat or broken element causing a partial obstruction.

Miata's tend to go through plug wires rather quickly. The combination of hot coils and heat tend to limit their life, especially if they are a generic brand. Back in college when I worked on Miata's every day, I found there was a noticable difference in the way the engine ran with a new set of plug wires vs a set with as little as 20 or 30k miles on them.

I posted my results on M5board and everyone is saying that the dyno must be off calibration because stock engines usually read about 330-335 rwhp, not 350. Does anyone know about the LRR dyno?

I think everyone else is thinking/hoping it is on the low side. I expected more power, but doubt I am alone, maybe the previous dynos I used were on the high side. The guy that was operating it said theirs is in line with Mayhem Motorsports dyno and someone elses in the area.
