What did everyone think of Randy's Pizza that we went to the night Rudino's gave us the boot? If they gave us the whole side of the restaurant we were on that night, it would be big enough. They have a decent beer selection and cheap pitchers. The location is pretty good and I think they are pretty slow for dinner. I'm going by there tomorrow, I'll be happy to ask.

X2, this really isn't a bad idea either, and the location is every bit as convenient for most people as Rally Point and the food ordering system certainly works better for our purposes eliminating the server issue.

ummm, I have to say I'm not a fan of this idea simply if we hit it a busy night, there is no where for us to sit. We sorta took over the back end of the restaurant and had all customers involved w/ our meeting. While they treated us well, I'd rather a private room.

I'm in favor of Randy's myself. If the owner reserves that side for us, then I could care less if bystanders hear us.

Location, food, beer, service style (ie order, pay, get called, eat) are all perfect at Randy's.

I'll ask, it can't hurt. Like James said, if he will promise to save that side for us, I don't think it will be an issue.

I'd sure give this one a big thumbs up, if they'd reserve the side. Selfishly, it would take about 20 minutes each way off our commute.

I was just at Red Hot and Blue on Falls of Neuse in Raleigh, and they have a back room (with doors) they will reserve up to a year in advance. I asked them about it tonight, and they said that the 1st Wed. of every month is wide open.

Contact info for Red Hot and Blue: Stephen Bell stephen@redhotandblueNC.com

They have a full bar (with weak, see-through beer) and a fairly good menu.

Too bad we meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. :?
Thanks for thinking about it though.

weak see-through beer...... finally someone understands me..........

oh and yeah, 2nd Wednesday. :sing:

nice recon work there newb. call them back to see if they will give us the second wednesday.

weak see-through beer, located in Raleigh close to the Beltline, and a service staff that hasn't seen 20 people in their section at one time in years.

i think we can build on it. if nothing else the bar at the Red Lobster next door stays open a little later.

ya know, some of us had to learn how to drink in dive's like the Holiday Inn I-80 and the local Red Lobster.

good times.........

Do any of the restaurants in the Brier Creek complex have private dining rooms?

FWIW -- I would not object to driving to the Garner/Clayton area after work, if it were not for the other 300,000 people driving from RTP to the Garner/Clayton area after work.

About places to eat in Durham -- I'll have to scout out the Pomodoro Italian Restaurant. Their website says they have a private room, wine and beer. It's easy to find, at the intersection of I-85 and Hillandale Rd. Now I know it's a haul for Kevin, but it's only 2 miles from my house. Besides, I hear that Kevin likes to drive :)

In the American Tobacco area:

* I'm pretty sure that Tylers does NOT have a private room. They have a dining area in front, and stand-around bar in the back.

* I've eaten at Cuban Revolution a few times, and I don't recall seeing a private room there either. Remchak would probably get all teary-eyed watching the Castro documentaries.

In the Downtown area:

* I haven't gotten used to the idea that there might be restaurants in downtown Durham, at least since the Palms closed in '83.
Image
In any event, I'm not stylish enough to go to any of them, and they probably frown on people who drive cars, or at least cars that aren't Priuses, which aren't really cars anyway.

* Now for one summer meeting we might go to the Fullsteam Brewery http://www.fullsteam.ag/tavern/ (which does not serve food), and see if we can get a food truck or two to show up.

Take your pick: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Fo ... rham%2C+NC
And then we can all go try our luck at the skate park

Tylers does have a private room, it's off to the right when you walk through the door. I'll bring this up again though, In ATC Tobacco Road is the place to go IMHO. The food is much better and we go there every friday with a medium sized group (about 8-10) for lunch and the service is always good (and also the beer). The issue with anywhere in ATC is going to be parking on game days, but it'd probably be worth it to check the schedule. I'll be there friday and I'll ask about the private room and second wednesday as well as the parking situation and report back.

a handful of suggestions for downtown raleigh. there are 2 parking decks in the area. if parking is really our only issue, then a parking deck would possible fix this?

if we've given other places a try, lets try downtown raleigh. service sucks in some places, location in other, food, space, management....

i know one parking deck is around the moore square. the other is close to 42nd street oyster bar (i think). could be worth looking into spots near the parking decks.

Sweet! Thanks Jeremy and Brett.

I think a part of the reason we keep moving around is the service, or lack thereof. The thing is, if the new place becomes the regular spot, instead of just trying it once, the management/waitstaff know what they're in for every second Wednesday and things improve.

I don't live in Durham and still think the ATC area would be pretty cool. Thanks for looking into that Jeremy.

Here is what Red Hot and Blue said, in case any leader types want to give them a call:

Red Hot & Blue can accommodate your schedule, second Wednesday of each month.
Have any questions, please call 846 7427.
Have a Great Day,
Stephen

I'm really just in it for the BBQ.

Yeah, I'm w/ you there, I dig RH&B BBQ. So where is this location? Add it to my list of Saturday places to drop by.
