I will be upgrading the forum software this Sunday evening (2/6) sometime between 9PM and Midnight. While the conversion/upgrade process is happening the forum will be offline. I hope that the forum will only be offline for about an hour or less.

We are doing this to allow for better support for things such as security patches as well as allow us to provide new features in the future such as easier access from mobile devices.

How will this impact you?

* The existing content and forum structure will be migrated. No need to worry about anything being lost.
* Your existing Username will work and your existing and Password should work. However you will need to login once the conversion is complete. I think there might be the potential for passwords to not be converted correctly. If that happens, you will be able to reset your password.
* The forum is going to be using a slightly different URL. The new URL will be http://www.thscc.com/forum You might want to make a note of this, but I will have a redirect setup so if you goto the old (current) URL you will end up at the new one.
* Due to new features, etc. the forum will look slightly different, but will operate pretty much the same.

Overall, if you run into problem email me at forums@thscc.com

Richard

The forum will be offline in just a few minutes as I will be starting the upgrade/migration.

I know you've got a pretty thankless job here, but I appreciate you taking the time to update the software.

Thanks Richard! So far this looks really good. Now I'll need to be retrained.

Thanks for the comments. The upgrade was WAY overdue. Jason prodded me a few weeks ago to get it done. There really was no reason to not suck it up and do it. Even then it was pretty easy.

So is there a setting that makes links open in a new window, or do I have to remember to right click them? I'm used to links opening in new windows, so I keep closing the window after viewing.

Thanks.

Links for the forum itself (such as "View new posts", etc.) did not (and still do not) open a new browser window or tab. But apparently embedded links within a post (or even a signature area) in the old software would open up a new browser window or tab when clicked, but with the new software it uses the current window. I will look, but my guess is that this behavior isn't a configurable thing.

Yep, and unfortunately, target="_blank" is not a CSS configurable thing. The old software must have defaulted to that with links within a post.

EDIT: Found it:

I feel like such a dweeb for knowing what that is.

Good find on the phpBB KB article. I am not surprised it was a specific design goal. My goal with the forum is to have as little manually modified code as possible (to make future upgrades easier). So while it appears via the KB article that we could make some manual code change to replicate the previous behavior, I say to leave it as is (Sorry Kevin).
