I've been told that the event chair for Greenville has been told not to do anything fun on setup day. Seriously??? Some of us volunteer to spend a day of our time and lots of hours beforehand planning these events so that we can get a little extra playtime before, during or after setup. And now you're saying we can't do anything fun as compensation for that time and manual labor? What's the incentive? If this has been going on for a while, I can see why it's difficult to get event chairs sometimes.

And she was specifically asked if I was going to be there. Why does that matter? I've got a lot of experience chairing autoxes, rallyxes, schools of both types, and I've won a lot of trophies. So I think I'm qualified to help set up an autox course. Is it because I might OMFG!!!!!!!!! do a handbrake turn somewhere on the course area? Or OMFG!!!!!! spin the tires at some point? W.T.F.???

Is it really okay to push your Miata to the limits of grip, trying not to lift, going for that extra tenth that you need to WIN!!! and spin 50 yards off the course into a ditch, but not okay to pull the handbrake and spin the tires around a pivot cone, or drift your 350hp awd car through an S-curve the way Subaru designed it to do?

Seriously, what is the problem here? Is it just a couple of anal-retentive people who've been put in charge of certain jobs, or is this the general consensus? I'm curious.

BTW, if you're going to stop me from playing around on setup day at Danville, you can count me out and give me a refund for my membership. If I get to play with my car -- this is a sports car club, right??? -- as compensation for my time and hard work, then I will gladly attempt to set up the best course I've ever been a part of designing.

If you want to be Ken Block or some other WRC fanboi, go to an empty parking lot by yourself and post videos up on YouTube. Seriously.

If you want to know who called you out at Danville, it was me, although I think others are just afraid to say anything.

I was one of probably many that thought your BS handbrake turn at the chicago box was not only stupid, but dangerous, for I was working that section. When you expect someone to enter the box by going left and they go wide right and pivot backwards through the box was irresponsible. It's one thing to have a moment when you lose control, but in this case you were trying to show off for you girlfriend.

To pile on top of that, you continued to spin the car after the finish of each run. Very impressive

I think you have excellent car control skills but our autocrosses, even on a setup day, are not your personal practice area. There is a reason the club has insurance and many clubs are losing sites all of the country. I don't want to see THSCC or any club lose a site because something thinks they can be Travis Pastrana at their local autocross setup day.

If you want to chat about it further, I should be at the event after Greenville. - AB

Kevin, since you've now made this a public discussion...

I believe you have excellent car control skills, but in general the club executives cannot and do not support the practicing of drift maneuvers at our autocross events. From a safety perspective, we don't set up our courses to accommodate these activities, and we will absolutely not risk our liability or insurability for what we believe to be unnecessary activities. This is no different than somebody drag racing down the runway at Laurinburg.

Further, outside of our membership and insurance, site availability is the single most valuable commodity in this club. The reference you make about this weekend's setup day is largely specific to requirements of this particular site, as unlike other sites the owner is on site for the duration of our access there, and we are time constrained if nothing else. Unfortunately. we did not get a chance to clarify that point with you before this escalation.

If you have further concerns, please contact me directly.
